  HISTORY OF IMUS PILOT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Imus Pilot Elementary School has been a living symbol of success and progress of education in Imus and its neighboring towns. The big number of its successful alumni attests to this great achievement of this school. It was in the school year 1960-1961 when Imus Elementary School was selected as a pilot project after the evaluative criteria was accomplished and submitted to the Instruction of Division of the defunct Bureau of Public Schools. This was during the administration of the late Mr. Leon T. Mediran, the supervisor and the late Ms. Felisa Ramirez, the principal, when the school named “ IMUS PILOT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.”

Financial and moral supports were given by the PTA for the school improvement. The ICA-NEC donated shop tools and the amount P9,400 for the library building. The PTA added P6,000 to complete the library. Likewise, the teacher solicited funds for the purchase of several library equipments. Several civic- minded people like Engineer Ernesto M. Paredes, donated P500 for the painting, Mrs. Chester Marbut, Donald Leventhol, Peace Corps Volunteers and Dr. Lorenzo Paredes donated books. Mr. Ricardo Suarez solicited chairs and lightning fixtures. The school received aids from outside agencies like the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes which donated the building for the Community School Clinic, while the Imus rural Bank gave P1,500 for the purchase of clinic equipment and steel filing cabinet for the Guidance Center. The Imus Elementary School Alumni Association sponsored the construction of the fence at the back of the school site, while the old fence in front was financed by the PTA funds. A joint venture was made the Imus Civic League, The Carabao’s Club and the PTA in the improving sidewalk near the fence for the safe passing of the children and pedestrians. One of the outstanding projects achieved at that time was the construction of a big gymnasium sponsored by the Imus Rural Bank. Due to a very strong typhoon that hit the area, the roofing of the rapid gymnasium collapsed in 1989.

It is noteworthy to mention too, that the Imus Pilot Elementary School, a great misfortune came in 1978 when the two story main building was totally gutted by a big fire. After the incident, over a million peso construction went on in 1979 up to 1980. On the site of the burned building, a Science Building was constructed. Eight Bagong Lipunan Units with three rooms per unit were also erected on the rear side of the school grounds. The construction was made possible through the joint effort of the late Gov. Dominador Camerino, Hon. Helena Benitez, Former Minister Cesar Virata, Former Deputy Budget Mrs. Manuel M. Paredes, the late Mrs. Leticia R. Parcero and the school principal then, Ms. Trinidad C. Montoya.

In 1982, The Woman’s Auxiliary to the Medical Society, Rural Improvement Club of the Philippines, Cavite Chapter awarded Imus Pilot Elementary School as the “Cleanest Central School” in the province of Cavite. In the same year Mrs. Erlinda Bergado Dematera won the National Guro Award as one of the Ten Outstanding Teachers of the Philippines.

Not only teachers attained success but the pupils as well. On December 3, 1987, Victor Immanuel R. Cuarto emerged as the National Champion in the National Quiz Bee ‘ 87, Philippine History and Culture held at the Philippine Plaza Grand Ballroom. Likewise, Ernest Raymund Viña represented region IV in the National Quiz Bee ’88 held at the Meralco Theather. Mrs. Mariet M. Tejada served as the coach. Oscar Joshua Macasa represented Region IV too, in the 1992 DECS DOST Quiz, Team Category at the Metropolis Theater.

Pupils and teachers, who joined competition, be it academic or cultural, used to turn out winners. For four consecutive years, the IPES teacher awarded in the Gawad Parangal’s Annual Search for the Outstanding Teachers in Imus.

The school can boast too, of its big and spacious canteen that caters to a big enrolment of four thousand ninety eight (4,098). It worked hand in hand with the school’s Feeding Program. The cooperative store has to put up to give pupils an idea on how cooperative operate. Incoming generating projects are ongoing in the school like the orchidarium, the paint- garden of BSP and the KAB and the copier machine of the teacher’s club. Likewise, the PTA was very active to the school needs. The biggest project ever accomplish by the PTA was the construction of the Multi- purpose Hall which can accommodate at least 500 persons. It has been the venue of various functions, be it educational, social, political, religious and others.

It is worthy to mention too, that the current Division Supervisors in the Division of Cavite namely, Dr. Trinidad I. Apilado ( HEKASI), Erlinda B. Dematera ( Mathematics), Amelia F. Parcero ( English ), Soleda R. Paredes ( H.E. and Nutrition), Dr. Emelina Ramirez ( Private Area) came from Imus Pilot Elementary School.

The school is very supportive to the different community programs like the Cleanliness Campaign wherein pupils go out every Friday afternoon to clean the surroundings. They used to participate too in other campaigns like, Drug Addiction Prevention Campaign , Sagip-Ilog, Nutrition, Restoration of the Historical Landmarks and many more. Pupil’s organization function effectively. The MKB, Junior Police, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts are always visible and on the go.

Through the leadership of the competent principals in the past years and at the present , IPES tries its best to be worthy of the esteem of the towns of people of Imus, above all, to those whose eyes are focused on the performances of the oldest citadel or learning whose lofty deals have guided the youth to carry high the torch of the noble aspirations.

The current school year offers a great challenge to its intelligent and hardworking principal and teaching staff, special remedial classes were organized to give the fullest assistance to the slow learners and under achievers. A Remediation Center was put to serve as the home base of the remediation teachers as well as the pupils.

With the end view of providing quality education, IPES continuously meet the challenges of the times, so that each of the pupils may be able to offer to his alma mater some tangible manifestations of the achievements.
